Study Finds that Online Education Beats the Classroom
Online education can be every bit as effective as classroom training. In fact, a U.S. Department of Education study indicates that online education is actually more effective than classroom training.
A Better Way to Teach?
Research shows that students learn better through an active, iterative process rather than lecture-based formats. This carries over to the online world as well. Online courses that are lecture-like, in that communication is one-way (from the course to the user), are not as effective as those that are highly interactive with the learner. Just because an online course contains multimedia (including videos, animations, or graphics the user clicks on to reveal hidden text) does not make the course an effective learning experience. Effective two-way interactivity should cause the learner to think and respond iteratively to fully understand a concept.
